Burlington Waterfront seeks volunteers, provides updates on LaSalle marina, waterfront hotel planning study and more

Burlington Waterfront, a citizen-led volunteer group, is seeking volunteers for several initiatives, including creating walking tours of the waterfront, and a promotional campaign on the city’s Windows to the Lake waterfront parks.

A Better Burlington began in 2006 after my neighbours said they felt left out of city decisions, learning about them only after they’d been made.

As journalist for 22 years, I thought “I can do something about that” and a website and newsletter were born. They’ve taken various forms and names over the years, but the intent remains: To let you know what’s happening at City Hall before decisions are made, so you can influence outcomes for A Better Burlington.

The best decisions are made when elected representatives tap the wisdom of our community members, and welcome many different perspectives.This site allows residents to comment and debate with each other; our Commenting Guidelines established in 2016 aim to keep debate respectful.

  1. Just wondering why we need to darken our piece of the Lakeshore as in Toronto. We could take a lesson from Oakville. Are we using guidelines for light and space in city planning?

Just studied the Burlington Mobility Hubs Study Booklet, September 7/17 and have a legit concern as to why does the Molinaro Group of Builders get exception to having the so-called “Cannery” development twice as high as the determination for the Brant Main Street of 11 st. high? I do know that Father Molinaro did receive an award for Top Builder, or whatever, but that definitely does not warrant any favouritism to have 22 st. on the most critical corner of the downtown Brant Main Street and Lakeshore. It looks like he has given a little on the corner to the City, but that still does nothing to enhance the excess height in that particular location. Serious common sense planning needs to make a correction on that sooner than later. I understand it is a give and take situation, but at least visualize the end product as to what suits that corner.
