Staff recommend not proceeding the Mount Nemo Heritage Conservation District

Mount Nemo PlateauPlanning staff are recommending that the city not proceed with the Mount Nemo Plateau Heritage Conservation District Study. Residents are invited to learn more at the Ward 3 Spring meeting:

Date: Monday, May 2

Time: 7-8 pm

Place: Conservation Halton Auditorium, 2596 Britannia Road

At this meeting staff will :

  • Describe the chronology of events of the project
  • Summary community responses received
  • Outline future opportunities to be involved in rural initiatives, including the city’s Official Plan Review

Despite this change, staff remain committed to protecting the special character of rural Burlington.

While the City may revisit conducting a heritage study of Mount Nemo in the future, it is not proceeding with the Heritage Conservation District Study at this time.  The decision to not proceed with the Study relates to redirecting resources to address priorities emerging from the Strategic Plan.

A letter will be mailed out April 11 to the rural area, map here: Map of Study Area

A Better Burlington began in 2006 after my neighbours said they felt left out of city decisions, learning about them only after they’d been made.

As journalist for 22 years, I thought “I can do something about that” and a website and newsletter were born. They’ve taken various forms and names over the years, but the intent remains: To let you know what’s happening at City Hall before decisions are made, so you can influence outcomes for A Better Burlington.

The best decisions are made when elected representatives tap the wisdom of our community members, and welcome many different perspectives. This site allows residents to comment and debate with each other; our Commenting Guidelines established in 2016 aim to keep debate respectful.
