Site plan application received for 508 Hager

Proposed elevation of new home at 508 Hager.
Proposed elevation of new home at 508 Hager.

City staff have received a site plan application to build a 1.5 storey single detached home at 508 Hager Ave. To make room for the new home, an existing home on the property would be demolished and the lot severed into two parcels.

No application has yet been filed for a second home on the site.

The project conforms to existing zoning. Staff are reviewing the application and expect it could need a few minor variances.

Minor variances flow through the Committee of Adjustment, which is a public process. Residents within 60m of the property would be notified by letter once the variances are known and a date has been set for the CofA hearing.

I will also provide notice on my website www.ward2news.ca and social media (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIN).

To be added to my email list for notices regarding this property, please email me at marianne.meedward@burlington.ca.

My Take: I’ll reserve final judgement on the project until I see the list of variances. I’d prefer to see the existing home retained, but I’m pleased the builder is aiming for design of the new home that reflects the character of the community, and respects existing zoning.

A Better Burlington began in 2006 after my neighbours said they felt left out of city decisions, learning about them only after they’d been made.

As journalist for 22 years, I thought “I can do something about that” and a website and newsletter were born. They’ve taken various forms and names over the years, but the intent remains: To let you know what’s happening at City Hall before decisions are made, so you can influence outcomes for A Better Burlington.

The best decisions are made when elected representatives tap the wisdom of our community members, and welcome many different perspectives. This site allows residents to comment and debate with each other; our Commenting Guidelines established in 2016 aim to keep debate respectful.
