Attending the Municipal Summit on OMB reform in May.

The province has announced a review of the Ontario Municipal Board, and is seeking in put on a range of items including jurisdiction – what items should (and shouldn’t) be heard by the board. I’m bringing a resolution to committee and council July 12 seeking no appeals of approved Official Plans & Zoning Bylaws. Read my proposed resolution here: Memo to DI July 12 re OMB Reform (DI-03-16)

A Better Burlington began in 2006 after my neighbours said they felt left out of city decisions, learning about them only after they’d been made.

As journalist for 22 years, I thought “I can do something about that” and a website and newsletter were born. They’ve taken various forms and names over the years, but the intent remains: To let you know what’s happening at City Hall before decisions are made, so you can influence outcomes for A Better Burlington.

The best decisions are made when elected representatives tap the wisdom of our community members, and welcome many different perspectives. This site allows residents to comment and debate with each other; our Commenting Guidelines established in 2016 aim to keep debate respectful.

  1. I applaud your resolution and fully support it in the absence of a resolution to disband the flawed organization altogether..

  2. Thanks for taking the initiative, Marianne.
    No thanks to Jack.

With only a consultation paper issued in the Fall (2016), how likely is it that any such reform will impact the ADI Nautique file (arguably the City’s highest-profile jurisdictional matter with the OMB), which I believe is scheduled to be dealt with by the OMB commencing February 27, 2017?

What's your take?
