Got questions about future development at Brant & Ghent? Some answers

I am getting many queries from residents about what is happening at the North West corner of Brant and Ghent, on the parcel of land stretching from the apartment building to Brant, and from Ghent to the plaza.

The entire parcel has been acquired by the Molinaro Group for future development. The site has been cleared of the four homes that were there. Some pruning of hazard trees and shrubs has also occurred around the perimeter and interior of the site.

The Molinaro Group also owns land on the east side of Brant Street at Ghent – the vacant parking lot at the North East corner, as well as several single family homes adjacent to the lot; and the medical building and adjacent mid-rise apartment at the South East corner.

There are currently no development applications before the city yet for redevelopment, but there is no question that at some point all three parcels will be redeveloped. I will be working with the developer to arrange a neighbourhood meeting when they are ready to meet with the community.

Meanwhile, the two parcels on the East side of Brant and Ghent, which were acquired earlier, were discussed at the Destination Downtown series of workshops. Residents provided input on criteria they would like to see in any redevelopment of these parcels. The Molinaro Group has extensively reviewed that input and plan to use it to inform their future plans for development here.
