Join me for neighbourhood walkabouts: Glenwood (July 6); Lakeshore (July 21)

glenwood schoolAs part of an effort to reach out and learn more about individual neighbourhoods and communities in Ward 2, I’ve worked with my community liaisons to organize a series of neighbourhood walkabouts.

The goal of the walkabouts is to meet residents who I only know by email, or don’t come to public meetings, and to see the neighbourhood through your eyes: the issues, concerns, what you like, what could be better. It’s also an opportunity for me to share with residents various supports the city has for the community including tree planting, benches, and funding for street parties, community events, or community upgrades.

The next walkabouts are as follows. If you live in these neighbourhood, please join us!

  • Glenwood School Drive/Queensway neighbourhood, Wed. July 6, 7pm; meet at corner of Glenwood School Drive and Hazel
  • Lakeshore Public School neighbourhood, Thurs. July 21, 7pm; meet at the corner of Newbold and Bruce. I’ll be joined on this walk by our Ward 1&2 public school trustee, Leah Reynolds, who lives in the neighbourhood.

A Better Burlington began in 2006 after my neighbours said they felt left out of city decisions, learning about them only after they’d been made.

As journalist for 22 years, I thought “I can do something about that” and a website and newsletter were born. They’ve taken various forms and names over the years, but the intent remains: To let you know what’s happening at City Hall before decisions are made, so you can influence outcomes for A Better Burlington.

The best decisions are made when elected representatives tap the wisdom of our community members, and welcome many different perspectives. This site allows residents to comment and debate with each other; our Commenting Guidelines established in 2016 aim to keep debate respectful.
