New healthy kids community challenge – switch off the screen and get outside!

Burlington is encouraging kids to power off their screens and play outside, as part of the Healthy Kids Community Challenge. Power Off and Play! is all about helping children and families build a balanced day that is not filled with screen time, namely the time spent using a screen-based device, such as smartphone, tablet, computer or TV.

Communities can help children and families to build a balanced day that includes:

  • Staying within recommended screen time limits
  • Putting screens away during important times of day (sleep time, meal and snack time)
  • Replacing screen time with other activities (physical activity, social interactions and fun and educational activities)

This theme runs from January to September 2018. What are your ideas for ways to promote this theme? Join the conversation at a public meeting:

Date and Time: Thurs. Nov. 9 5:45 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Location: Mainway Arena, 4015 Mainway

To register, sign up and reserve your spot today.

Dinner will be provided. Childcare is available.
