The campaign was launched following an outpouring of concern by hundreds of residents to abetterburlington.ca, a community website created by journalist and Burlington resident Marianne Meed Ward, who started writing about the waterfront development.
Residents wrote back, saying loud and clear “We can do better” for our waterfront than highrise development and destruction of heritage properties allowed under the current Official Plan.
Motivated by a shared concern for the waterfront, the residents formed a steering committee to organize public awareness and pressure city council to protect this area and embark on city-wide consultations to realize a community-driven vision for our waterfront. Everyone is welcome to join our campaign.
